This standard provides the format and establishes the data contents of the Motor Carrier Shipment Status Message Transaction Set within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set is used by a motor carrier to provide shippers, consignees, and their agents with the status of shipments in terms of dates, times, locations, route, and identifying numbers.
To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number
To transmit identifying numbers and other basic data relating to the transaction set.
To transmit identifying numbers and descriptive information as specified by the reference number qualifier
To transmit information in a free-form format, if necessary, for comment or special instruction.
To identify a party by type of organization, name and code
To specify additional names or those longer than 35 characters in length
To specify the location of the named party
To specify the geographic place of the named party
To identify a person or office to whom communications should be directed
To specify pertinent dates and times
To transmit identifying numbers and descriptive information as specified by the reference number qualifier
To specify carrier and routing sequences and details.
To reference a line number in a transaction set.
