This standard provides the standardized format and establishes the data contents of the U.S. Customs Manifest (Ocean) Transaction Set within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. It is sent by ocean carriers, terminal operators, port authorities or service centers to provide U.S. Customs with manifest data on cargo arriving in the U.S. on oceangoing vessels.
To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number
To transmit manifest identifying information

To transmit identifying information for a port of discharge

To reference a line number in a transaction set.
To correct a manifest record prior to vessel arrival or to amend a manifest record after vessel arrival. This segment is not used with the original manifest transmission when field M1009 = "W"
To transmit bill of lading detail information for a manifest
To indicate that the next segment begins a loop
To identify a party by type of organization, name and code
To specify the location of the named party
To indicate that the loop immediately preceding this segment is complete
To transmit in-bond data for a master in-bond bill of lading
To indicate that the next segment begins a loop
To identify a vehicle and seal number
To indicate line item quantity and/or description
