This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Standard Transaction Commodity Code Master Transaction Set (435) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set is used to transmit Standard Transportation Commodity Codes and associated information.

To convey the Standard Transportation Commodity Code (STCC) and associated descriptions
To transmit identifying information as specified by the Reference Identification Qualifier
To specify pertinent dates and times
Code to transmit standard industry codes
To provide a free-form format that allows the transmission of text information

To specify the hazardous material shipping name and additional descriptive requirements
To specify the hazardous classification, placard notation, and endorsement information
To uniquely identify the variable information required by government regulation covering the transportation of hazardous material shipments

To specify additional Transport Canada requirements covering transportation of dangerous goods in Canada
