In accordance with International Standards Organization standard 8601, time can be specified by a + or - and an indication in hours in relation to Universal Time Coordinate (UTC) time. Since + is a restricted character, + and - are substituted by P and M in the codes that follow.

Code identifying the country.

Prefix or alphabetic part of an equipment unit's identifying number.

Sequencing or serial part of an equipment unit's identifying number (pure numeric form for equipment number is preferred).

Reference number or identification number as defined for a particular Transaction Set, or as specified by the Reference Number Qualifier.

Code identifying the geographic direction in which the equipment is moving

Q513 is the direction (north or south) of the equator for the latitude given in Q512.

If Q513 is not used, north is assumed.

Code qualifying the Reference Number.

Q514 is the direction (east or west) of the equator for the longitude given in Q515. If Q513 is blank, north is assumed; if Q516 is blank, west is assumed.

Reference number or identification number as defined for a particular Transaction Set, or as specified by the Reference Number Qualifier.

Code identifying the geographic direction in which the equipment is moving

If Q516 is not used, west is assumed.
