This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Delivery/Pickup Order Transaction Set (317) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set can be used by importers or their agents to provide marine terminal operators with orders for the delivery or pickup of goods.
To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number
To identify a party by type of organization, name and code
To specify additional names or those longer than 35 characters in length
To specify the location of the named party
To specify the geographic place of the named party
To identify a person or office to whom communications should be directed
To transmit identifying numbers and descriptive information as specified by the reference number qualifier
To specify pertinent dates and times
To transmit identifying numbers and descriptive information as specified by the reference number qualifier
To specify the carrier, sequence of routing and to provide transit time information
To specify quantity, weight, volume and type of service for a line item including applicable ``quantity/rate-as'' data.
To specify the line item in terms of description, quantity, packaging, and marks and numbers.

To indicate the end of the transaction set and provide the count of the transmitted segments (including the beginning (ST) and ending (SE) segments).
